The president of Latvia in 2019-2023 Egils Levits is an active supporter of the establishment of the Institute of National Remembrance in Latvia.

Because now Latvia is the only country of all the democratic states of the former USSR and the socialist bloc, which still has neither a special Archive of Repressive Organs of the Communist Totalitarian Regime, nor the Institution of National Remembrance. Therefore, it was interesting to talk about the activities and experience of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance – decommunization, decolonization, rehabilitation, creation of various exhibitions, information materials for certain historical events for different target audiences. The parties agreed on further cooperation in achieving their goals.
